Default 5.7 HEMI Power loss 2005 Durango

My Durango has lost power. Everything is stock. No codes. When I accelorate in first gear it feels like there is a slight miss but engine sounds normal. Had all plugs replaced by dealer. USed to be able to pull a 18" boat and pass cars. Now when I kick down RPM's go up but slow acceloration. Had into dealer several times they say there is no problems. Thought maybe there is a tranny problem, took to an trans specialist and he advised tranny is perfect and motor is under powered. Driving me crazy. 93,000 miles

How does it run when you dont have the boat behind it? Could be a fuel pump on its way out at 93K. I would hang a fuel gauge on the rail and see how the pressure is.

When was the last time you had the trans, Transfer case, and differentials serviced?

Also, check your air filter and replace it if it is more than 20K old.

Without a boat it is the same. I recently had a flush and front pump replaced

Just throwing ideas out, but I had a sluggish vehicle and it needed new plug wires. A dirty/sticking throttle body will also cause lag.

Laughing at the Hemi being underpowered...what did he suggest, a jet turbine?

Did this issue start AFTER the tranny flush? If so, did they do the job right and also replace both filters in the pan?

It could be that your main sump filter has come loose, or was incorrectly installed.

We do not recommend flushes on a trans unless they have been done on a regular basis. Over time, crud builds up that will be knocked loose during the flush. That stuff eventually finds its way to other places in the trans causing more issues.

Also, hopefully they went back in with oem Mopar ATF+4 OR Valvoline ATF+4. If not, that is a no-no to start with!

If your tech's "underpower" statement refers to the engine not running correctly, that is one thing. If he is inferring that 335 HP and 370 FT LBS of torque from 5.7 liters is not enough, I would find a new mechanic as it sounds like he has a problem with Chrysler in general.

I guess I should rephrase what I mean by flush. I had a problem with the rango going into reverse after sitting for a period and so talking to Dodge service they said there is a TSB for the front pump. I had them replace the front pump so I assumed in doing so they flushed the tranny. It started long before the tranny repair. When they say under powered they ment that when they tested under a load (going up a steep hill) they felt that because it was a HEMI it should do it with ease where it didn't. Another thing I noticed was when I am moderatly accelorating and it is not going like I think it should if I back off the throtle a bit it feels like it speeds up a bit. I am taking it into a exhaust place this week to get it checked. after that I am all out of ideas.

Thanks for the clarification. I agree that being a Hemi it should zip right up the hills with little effort. I feel a very noticeable difference between the 230 HP my 01 4.7L D had vs. the 335 HP in my 04 Hemi.

Does it seem like it is missing to you? I would really think you would be getting a CE light if that were the case.

I would not assume that they did anything other than possibly drain some ATF out and replace it when the repair was done. To replace the front pump, they should have had to drop the trans. Do you know if they did or not?

The 545RFE is normally a pretty stout trans.
