Default Tow/Haul Mode Problems

Does anyone know why the tow/haul mode in my 2004 Durango (4.6L) would intermittantly come on and go off when driving. It seems to happen more often on the highway especially if there are numerous overpasses.

KL:

How many miles on your D, and when was the last time your tranny was serviced?

Are you towing when you are using the tow haul mode?

More info please. Don

I'm the 2nd owner. Purchased the durango with 55000 and now has 85000. I don't think any tranny work or service has been done to it. The issue occurs out of the blue... on the highway, in the city, and since I don't have a hitch I can't tow anything (currently searching for a used hitch or something I can install to pull a small utility trailer). I do have custom 20" wheels. Today we wedged a spacer behind the button on the end of the shifter ****. So far this hasn't happened yet. So mabye we found our problem... yet to be seen.

The light did come on showing the tow mode was active and I could feel the change in rpm. Since we placed a spacer in the button at the end of the shifter **** the problem has not occurred again. It looks as if thats the problem!? Forgive my ignorance but what is "TPS"? Is OD (overdrive?) the same as tow/haul mode?

Sounds like a loose button may have been your issue. In any case, you might consider having the trans, transfer case, and both front and rear diffs serviced.

85K is way overdue for all of them.
