2005 dodge durango limited questions
I just bought a 2005 Durango/Hemi with 33k miles with dvd-gps-all the options that come with the Limited.
1-Is there a way to disable the seatbelt chime (I do wear my belt but need the chime disabled)
2-In the owners book there is a feature for the electric seats/memory
It states that from the factory that the feature for the seate to auto retract back when put in drive and key off is disabled. And you need to bring to dealer to be enabled
I need directions to
*disable the seatbelt chime
*enable the driver seat auto retract without going to the dealer .
Is there an info area for all the settings for the 2005 Durango settings without going to the dealer.
Most seem to be in the owners book but not all
thanks

Disabling the seatbelt reminder is easy. I'm not sure about the memory setting. That's in the DIC on my 2007 Limited (over head console) but I don't think the 2005 has this??
Here is instructions for seat belt chime:
NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition swith being turned to the ON or Start position. DaimlerChrysler does not recommend deactivating the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert).
1. Turn the ignition swith to the OFF position and buckle the driver's seat belt.
2. Start the engine and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.
3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver's seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.
4. Turn off the engine. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.
The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated by repeating this procedure.

What is the build date of your Durango? WOW...33k miles! Sounds like the proverbial little old lady that drove it to church on Sundays.
If you are the second owner, you may want to consider having the remainder of your 7/7o powertrain warranty transferred into your name.
Should you want to do this, you will need to get to a dealer within 30 days of purchasing it to make the transfer.
They will charge you $150.
Being that the 2004-2005 Hemi engines had some fairly serious issues for a few unlucky owners, it might be a good idea.

I already paid the $125 for the transfer that will be up in Feb of 2012.
Also the person had the Chrysler Maximum bumper to bumper coverage up in Feb of 2012 I had this all transfered. The Durango is pretty clean inside like new and it was a wifes car not used much. DVD/GPS + many more options.
just had all 4 brakes/rotors done @ 32k miles from the dealer
I think the bulid date was late 2004.
This durango had all its service done at the dealer.
The day I was going to buy it the check engin light came on. The seller took it to the Local Chrysler/Dodge dship and spent almost the day until they found the problem it was the egr and a new one was replaced for free under the old owner since it was still under his name.
The maxium care warranty covers over 5000 items except brakes so I figured for the money 7 months of coverage is not bad and I can still purchase another 5 yrs before this one is up.
thanks for the shout

Sounds like you are ahead of the curve there. The factory Maxcare policy is a great one
We have that on our 2005 Grand Caravan, and it has paid for itself and then some.
Do be sure to keep your ear tuned to any unusual noises coming from your Hemi.
As you may have read, quite a few of the 2004 owners (me included) as well as a few 2005 owners have experienced total engine failure.
Mine died at 39K. A number of them were in the 50-70K range while the rest were closer too 100K.
That being said, IMO no engine should have any serious issues before 100-150K as long as it is serviced properly.
You will want to look into having (or doing) service on your trans, differentials, and transfer case.
Use either Mopar or Valvoline ATF+4 on the trans and t case, and Mobil 1 75/90 gear oil for the diffs.
Your cooling system is due for a flush and refill also every 5 years OR 100K miles.
All 16 spark plugs are supposed to be done every 30K, but you can go 40, 50, or 60 without harming anything.
