5.7 Hemi running sluggish
i notice a couple of weeks ago that my wife's durango was missing ever so slightly. we left for vaction and took my truck and when we got back it didnt want to start. it turned over fine just didnt seem to catch. when it finally did start it wouldn't go over 2500 rpm's and wouldn't get above 30 mph. once i turned the vehicle off and started it back up it ran fine.
although this same thing proceeded to happen the next day while my wife was trying to drive it.
at first i thought this was just a simple tune up isse with the vehicle having 80k miles on it but now i am wondering if it is something much worse. any help would be much appreciated.

Father,
The symptoms you describe could be caused by any number of things. I would suggest a trip to the dealership for diagnosis if you cannot figure it out on your own. If you send me the VIN, mileage, and your name via a private message I can check what warranty(s), if any, remain on the vehicle and let you know if you would like me to.

Father:
First thing to check is your battery. How old is it? To rule out any issues here, have it fully charged and load tested. If it comes back the least bit flaky, replace it asap.
80K is not a lot of miles for this motor. As FF says, if your spark plugs have never been changed at 80K, it is time and you can then rule these out also.
Once you get the driveability issues solved, time to look at your Trans, T case, and front/rear axles.
These should have their fluids changed every 40K, and more like 30 if you drive it hard.
The coolant is also good for 5 years or 100K, so possibly that is due on time depending on what year your D is?

i bought it it used with 68k on it. Has ran awesome up until the last week. i have never changed the plugs but knew it was getting time to do it.
i appreciate all the advice.

the only code it has ever shown was a gas cap code. shortly after we bought it this appeared and the gas comes back at you when the tank gets close to being full. i was told this was some kind of air gap issue and we had to replace the tank to fix it. dealership told me it was around $800 and i now am just a little more careful when i fill it up.
dodgecares,
i appreciate the offer and will get you that info.
thanks

Father,
Your 2007 Durango had a 3/36 basic warranty which of course has now run out. However, you have a federal emissions warranty that is 8 years 80,000 miles. Because you are so close to that mileage you might just want to find out if an emission item such as a PCM (powertrain control module) is not the problem. If the PCM is the problem then it would be covered under that emissions warranty.
