Default Front End Noise?

My wife has an 05 Hemi Durango, Limited AWD 72K. I have a humming coming from the front end. At least I think its the front end. It almost sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me but the sound does not change when you steer the truck side to side. The sound is most noticable when the truck is coasting. It also makes the sound when braking. The sound changes with vehicle speed. I brought it up to 70 mph today and its notcable when off the gas. I put it in Nuetral and let it coast to almost a stop and the sound it still present. The u-joints in the front and rear driveshafts seem ok, there is no play in them with the truck in park in the driveway. The front diff is full with fluid, no leaks. The trans and transfer case were recently serviced and the noise is still present. C/V boots are not ripped. There is no leakage at the wheel bearings. I dont have any vibrations. Tire psi is the same all around. Ive even changed the tire psi thinking it could be tire noise and the noise is still there.
I need some ideas on what could be wrong. I dont want to just start throwing parts at it.

Sounds like you have already looked a lot of places to be suspect. Does the noise vary with engine rpm?

I am sure others will chime in, but from what we have so far I am gravitating towards a carrier or pinion bearing in the front axle.

FYI, did not put synthetic gear oil in the front axles on our D's for some reason. When I brought my 04 home last March of last year, I pumped out the old stuff front and rear. I then went back in with Royal Purple in both.

Mobil 1 is also very good.

My wife has the same issue. I recently put on some different wheels and tires because I thought they looked good. The noise went away. She hated the rims and so the factory ones went back on with 90% worn tires and back came the noise. I am hoping that a new set of sneakers will take care of it in the next few weeks.

I was able to figure out the noise yesterday. I got the truck up on four jack stands and ran it in gear. The noise was comming from the rear end and being transfered through the truck making it sound like it was the front end. The pinion seal went on the rear end and it ran out of oil. I dont know which bearing roasted in the rear end but something is bad for sure. The truck is getting dropped off later this afternoon so the rear end can get rebuilt. Im pissed at myself that I didnt notice the pinion seal sooner. I could have possible saved the rear from eating itself.

GJG:

Sorry to hear that diagnosis, but at least you have a direction to go now.
