frustrated.... misfire cyl#6
getting frustrated with my 04 durango. began spitting and sputtering last week, and the cel came on. so i took it in to the local garage to get it looked at, and the guy pulled the code p0306. misfire cylinder 6. gave me some advice to go and change the plugs, and see what happens. if that doesnt fix it, change the coil on cylinder 6 and i should be good to go. changed the plugs out with some champion double platinums, made sure they were gapped correctly, and still had the issue. so i went and spent the 30 dollars and changed the coil on cylinder 6. quick 10 minute fix, and it seemed to work. took the d out for a spin, no sputter, nothing. ran fine, idle was nice and smooth, accelerated like it was supposed to, ran great. pulled in the drive way, shut the truck off, went in and ate dinner. came back out to the garage, cuz i was going to do some cleaning and detailing on it, started it up to pull it into the garage, and the friggin rough idle was back. what? took it for spin, and it was back to spitting and sputtering, basically falling on its face if put my foot into the gas peddle. took it back to the garage, got the code p0306, misfire cylinder 6 (again), and now p0206, cylinder 6 injector circiut malfunction. the guy says to change the fuel injector out on that cylinder. so im am going to go get a new injector tomorrow after work, and waste my saturday off working on tyring to fix that code. ugh...
my question is, why would the d run fine after i changed out the coil and took it for a spin, then go right back to doing the same thing it was before i changed the coil out. and now it shows the other code p0206. what the hell. i have seemed to have nothing but trouble after trouble with this thing since i bought it. it is an 04, 4.7, when i bought it it had 36,000 miles, now it has 51,000. i have had to change the radiator out because it was clogged, change the water pump already, have had to have the exhaust manifold bolts changed on the passenger side once, and driver side twice, ugh!!!!!!!!!!! what the fudge!

Not sure about the water pump, but the manifold bolts breaking are common, especially for the earlier 4.7s (like 2004). The radiator clogging is probably a result of proper maintenance not being performed, not necessarily by you, but by the first owner. You don't just change coolant based on miles, you do it by years of age as well.
Injectors and coils don't necessarily go bad and are obviously bad, sometimes they are temperamental and will work some drives, other drives act up terribly.

fixxed. changed out #6 fuel injector, idling smooth, accelerating as should. i gotta say thanks to these forums, cuz i have found a lot of good info on here. and there are some very helpful members with alot of knowledge!!
I just had the same issue with my 2004 5.7 Durango.......injector circuit malfunction and misfire. From what I read, the injector issue was causing the misfire condition. Mine would run like crap for a minute and then run fine for quite a while.....just intermittently running bad. I ended up dumping 2 bottles of injector cleaner into the gas tank and it has been running fine now for a few days. I've got my fingers crossed that it was just a dirty injector as opposed to an injector starting to go out. If yours was from being dirty you might want to run a can of injector cleaner in your gas just in case........would help clean all the others out and it's only a few dollars.
You could find a shop that will remove the injectors and clean them as well as make sure they are within tolerance of each other. Fuel cleaning systems most likely will not work for severely clogged filter injectors or the varnish on the tips,

Hi,
I have an 2004, 4.7 liter, with 175K miles. I took it in after malfunction light came on yesterday and misfiring started. The shop is telling me the panel under the hood by the windshield needs replaced because the seal is missing and it's leaking water down on the coils. Does this sound like a possibility? It's going to cost $180 to replace the panel and I don't want to waste my money if this isn't going to fix it. The spark plugs were changed last year, transmission was just flushed, and it has been well maintained.
Thanks,
Lisa
