Unhappy 2008 Dodge Durango Hemi

We bought our Durango New in 2009 but it was a 2008 model. last week we started having problems with the Radio/Satallite/Navigator/camera/ etc. Sometimes when we start the vehicle a black screen will show in place of the normal screen showing you the above. After you drive about 25 minutes the screen will be fine and you can use the touch screen as normal but no sound. after about 10 minutes the sound will come on. Sometimes when you start it, it works and sometimes it don't and you have to wait. It really upsets me that to me my vehicle is still new. it only has 53k miles and I've only had it three years. What sucks is the basic warranty that would cover this...ends at 36kmiles. Anyone have any suggestions to what could be wrong and how much it would cost to fix?

April,

What radio do you have? Should be a 3 character code on bottom right of the radio/media center face plate. Or PM me your VIN and I will see what I can find.

Unhappy reply

RER is the 3 letter code on the bottom right of faceplate. Yesterday evening after I posted this forum...it just doesnt do anything. it stays lit up and when you turn the vehicle off, after your lights go off it didnt shut off. it stayed on for about 10 min before it finally went off.
we have MP3. WMA.JPEG, Sirius, Hard disk, radio, uconnect, navigator that should show on the screen and when you back up, it shows the back up camera...but nothing is showing up now. OH, I am not sure how to PM a message

April,

Click on the private message link above on the right that says private message. It is in red. It should say you have at least one unread message as I have sent one from me to you. Just reply with your VIN and I will look into what updates are available for your radio. There was a recall on the RER for some vehicles and a couple of software updates that the dealer could perform that may solve your issue. I am listing the recall below but without your VIN I cannot be sure if it applies to your vehicle or not. If you are going to have the dealer look at it, they should also be able to pull any updates off that are available that may solve your issues. As far as the warranty covering it, if the dealer says it is not a covered repair then I suggest contacting our Customer Assistance Center at 800-992-1997 to see if they will cover all or part of the cost to fix it.

Nice to know there is a fix and solution.

I however would not expect, nor condone, the flash being done for free. With exceeding 32% more miles (by nearly 20,000 miles) than what the warranty allows... and what is nearly a 4 year old vehicle... and a company now owned by a completely different company than was there when the vehicle was purchased by/from now... why should they?

April, if you get the dealer to provide the flash to the radio for free, post their name here for everyone to see. They will deserve the free positive press and kudos for a job exceptionally well done.

If they don't (do it for free) it should only take then 1 hour and should cost you IN TOTAL less than $100 if they can flash the unit. If it requires replacement, go aftermarket and don't pay for a stock replacement. The price to be paid for a factory radio unit is always highway robbery. Go somewhere else and just get a new radio. Even by paying for an hour to install it, you can get something much better than the factory unit for much less money. Also, do not let the dealer charge you a diagnostic fee especially when you are walking in with the solution already in hand.

Chris/DodgeCares, nice job.

It was a 2008 model but we did not purchase until April of 2009 and it was still new. there was only 51 miles on it (im guessing from people test driving it). I called the company as suggested and I was told that I needed to take it to a dealer and have diagnosed. the company said that once i have it diagnosed, if it was something that was malfunctioned on their end, they will have it replaced being out of my warranty....this is the main company, not the dealer. But i still have to take it to a dealer to have diagnosed and i am lucky that my neighbor works at one and he's going to drive it down and have it looked at to save me some money. I believe its a short in the wire. if i hit a bump or something, it will come on sometimes. Once it comes on you can hear and work the MP3 part and DVD but you can only see and change stations on the radio. you can't hear it. I just noticed this yesterday. but again this morning, once it was turned off and restarted this morning....it was messed up again...
