I'm installing a brush guard and the guard's third point connects to a vertical bolt on the frame underneath the radiator. However, no amount of pushing, pulling, kicking, swearing etc has been able to get it out. The bolt DOES rotate, but then turns and retracts right back as soon as pressure is taken off. Any solutions out there?

 

Rotates back? What is on the other side of this bolt? A nut? Can you see the other side? I haven't a clue which bolt you are referring too yet want to help. I am not going to look at mine but can take a peak in the morning.

 

sarguy, thanks for your response and for your concern. Through some research, I've determined that they are the strut bolts, and on the other side of the frame is a bushing. The bushing is not permanently attached to the frame, so when the bolt head is turned on the other side, the bushing simply spins with it. The 'snap-back' I was seeing when attempting to twist the bolt was the center of the bushing spinning while the outer edge was still fused to the frame through corrosion, glue or something else weak as with enough force (leverage from a cheater bar on my wrench), the bushing broke free from the frame and now spins freely when the bolt head is turned. That was a pretty long-winded way to explain it but I hope it got the job done. Thanks.

 

Those bolts are your front two body mounts, the best way to get them off is soak them in WD-40 wait 5-10min then use either a large impact gun or a cheater wrench on the bottom and a strap wrench on the top bushing. Best of luck!!
