2008 Durango Trailer Running Lights No Power at Vehicle Trailer Plug
I have a 2008 Dodge Durango and I have no power going to the vehicle trailer plug for the trailer running lights and tail lights. Trailer works fine on another vehicle. I have checked the fuses in the fuse block under the dash and the 2 under the hood. Is there a fuse somewhere else where I am not looking? Vehicle lights work fine but not on the trailer. Brake lights and directionals are working on the trailer.

2004 dodge Durango 4x4 hemi w/tow package. no power to top 2 plugs on my 4 plug trailer plug coming out from truck. all trailer lights dead. 20 amp fuse seems fine, replaced anyways. there are 2 large black rt. and left tow fuses? anywhere else. please help. thanks
when I test the bottom ground to the other 3 pins. top dead, 2nd dead, 3rd. 12 volts. & of course bottom ground. 20 fuse good. switched big black fuses with washer fuses and they still work so those are bad. tested wires behind plug on the car and get same readings as before plug so assume plug not bad. still, no lights on trailer. thought something would work w/at the least the 3rd. pin reading but nothing.
needing trailer in a few days. any help greatly appreciated. thanks, carol

My hitch and wiring is the MOPAR factory kit installed after manufacture, not as it came from the factory, but I think it shouldn't matter. Mine is also an '08 Durango, so at least that is the same.
Lets look at the pinout at the plug:
Pin 1 - white - ground
Pin 2 - brown - running lights
Pin 3 - yellow - left turn signal
Pin 4 - light green - right turn signal
Turn on the truck parking lights and 4-way flasher. Do all of the lights on the truck work as they should?
Measure from pin 4 to pin 2. Should be steady 12V
Measure from pin 4 to pin 3. Should be pulsing 12v
Measure from pin 4 to pin 3. Should be pulsing 12v
Now measure from a known good chassis ground (not the pin) to each pin as above. Same thing?
I just looked at the schematic for the trailer lighting in the service manual. It looks like there are a pair of relays for trailer lights in the PCM. I don't understand why, or what they do, but they could be bad, I guess.

all lights work on truck. do you mean to test live pins with grounds. do understand 4 to 3 and 4 to 2. couldn't get manual to pull up. I did switch the big black relay/fuse things with the wiper ones, they were the same, and the wipers still worked but not the trailer lights. I am totally stumped. went to a local shop yesterday, told him all I have tested and he didn't have a clue. I did just put a full set of new lights on the trailer but the wires are pretty mistake proof with the color coordinating. help

OK - when you were saying fuse I was confused. Those are relays.
No! Do not tie the other pins to ground!
You said you are testing the other pins to ground. What are you testing with? A voltmeter? Test light?
You will need to download Adobe Reader (a free program) to read the service manual. If not on your system that is why you can't open it

I must learn to read more carefully, Carol. I just realized you said in your first post that the turn and brake lights work OK on the trailer. I was assuming you had NO trailer lights.
That sure canges things! The running lights should be the brown wire on the connector. On my Durango the trailer light wires are connected to the truck wiring in the tail lights. Are you able to remove the right tail light assembly and check teh voltage at the pins where the trailer lights connect? (I'm assuming you have a voltmeter or test light).
