Default How long is oil dipstick on 4.7L?

My wife's Durango had an issue with the original dipstick so we ordered a new one but it does not look the same. The original one had a ring on the end of it that you would use to pull and the new one has a flat handle. The new one is supposed to be for the year and engine but I am not getting any reading at the end of the dipstick. The Durango has never given us any major issues and there are no signs of leaking oil. The old dipstick actually rusted into two pieces somehow so I cannot use it to measure proper length.

Can someone measure the length of their oil dipstick and let me know how long it is?

Thanks

Did you go to the dealer for the dipstick? Lokar maked them if you need to replace the one you just bought.

I did not go through a local dealer so I could not compare the dipsticks. I just bought one online from a dealer that listed the correct engine and year. If someone can measure the length of their dipstick from a 2005 Durango with a 4.7L engine that would be helpful.

Thanks

WC:
The dipstick on the Gen 2 D's are longer than the Gen 1's from my experience.
I have the 5.7, and it is way longer than the 4.7 unit on my prev 01 D.

Will check it tomorrow as a reference for you and post here. I know someone with a Gen 2 4.7 will eventually post also.

n8ech, thanks for the reply. I am still looking around here but if someone who has one can measure it that would be great.

Thanks

My wife's 2006 Durango has the 4.7.

From the base of the round handle (the part that makes contact with the top of the tube when its pushed all the way in), it is almost exactly 39.25 inches long.

No problem. How long is the one you purchased?

Jason:

The dipstick length on my 04 Hemi is right at 39 inches.
I measured from the base of the handle where it rests against the tube to the tip.

An interesting thing is that this Hemi stick looks like a cobbled up affair made from a shorter dipstick with an extension riveted on.

The 05 Durango at work with the 4.7 has a long stick also, but it is one continuous piece.

It seems that the stick on my previous 01 4.7 was not quite as long as these Gen 2 models.
