05 durango trans issue
Hello, I have a 05 hemi durango with 60,000 miles. the trans will not engauge any of the foward gears. reverse works perfect. tried to put it in 4wd hi and lo, still no foward gears. Anyone ever heard of this? Thanks to all who respond. Jim
Welcome to DF
Have you had any work done on the transmission, like having the filters replaced? Check the fluid level and the condition of the fluid. If those are good, next step would be check for stored and active codes and have a clutch test done. This will let you know which clutch pack is slipping. But from what i reading, the transmission needs to come out and perform a tear down.

Cupcake:
Are you the original owner and what is the build date of your D?
If by chance it is still within the 7/70 powertrain warranty period, a dealer will make the needed repairs for $100.
The 545RFE trans is pretty tough piece of hardware. How long have you owned it, and what servicing have you had done on it?

Hey guy's, Thanks for your responce. I bought it new in 05. I called the dealer to see if it was covered on the 7/70 drivetrain. It expired on may15th. (just my luck). I just replaced the filters and fluid. The tranny had never been serviced. The fluid had a slight burnt odor, but not real strong. There were no pieces in the pan, just fine powder stuck to magnent. Tried to drive and it did go into drive. I went about 10 feet verry slow and it stopped like i put it in park. went to reverse and it worked fine. put in neutral and it goes backwards like reverse. back into drive and it's like neutral. back to park and then to drive and it goes foward 10 feet and engages park again. I guess I will take it to the shop for diagnose, trying to get cash together first. I will let everyone know what comes of this. Aparently it is somewhat common problem, lots of other similar complaints on the web, but none say what the problem was. Thanks for your time, Jim
Sorry, I forgot to mention a couple things. It did not display any codes when turning the ignition on and off, but I did find that the key can be removed when the ignition is in the on position and while the car is running. Also tried to put it into 4lo. it will not engage, it just makes a clicking sound. Hope this may help. Thanks again, jim

Jim:
Do you have an update on your trans issue?
If the min sump filter and its attendant seal were not installed properly, you can have a host of crazy issues.
The 4 lo issue is separate and relates to the transfer case.
I would not worry about that until you have the trans issue fixed.
Most of these T cases like the trans to be in Neutral with the vehicle stopped or rolling very slowly before they will engage 4 LO.
Being an 05, I would look really hard at the torque convertor. More than 1 05 has suffered a bad TC which will render it unable to move.
Make sure that the fluid level is correct also after the service. You should have needed 5 to 7 quarts of ATF+4 to fill up back to a proper level.
