Blend doors and A/C Display Replacement :(
New to the forum, been looking around and I like it already.
2004 Dodge Durango 5.7 4x4 with rear air.
Rear is blowing cold, front is hot. Had the refrigerant dumped and refilled, the garage stated there was nothing wrong with the compressor and there were no leaks present, good news. The bad news is it leads me to believe that there are some faulty door or actuators. I have done a similar repair on a Ford Expedition (ie: dropping steering column and removing dash) so it looks like this will also be a DIY project. Does anyone have any good posts for this type of repair that I could not find. I have a couple of questions, I have tried to scour the forum before posting these questions so please forgive me if they are repeats.
1) Who can pull the codes for the problems with the A/C unit? Can this be read with OBII code reader or only Dodge specific readers? If only Dodge, how much would this normally cost just for a code reading? I read a recalibrate is possible as well, should this be attempted as well?
2) Once the dash is removed, its obviously the smart move to replace all the doors at this point correct? Should all actuators be replaced as well or just faulty ones if present? I believe I read there are 4 doors: Mode 1, Mode 2, Blend, and Re-circ door, is this correct?
3) The other problem that I have just been putting up with is the A/C control unit display, completely black and I just have to listen to determine what fans and what speeds. Since the dash is being worked on is it possible to replace the display or does the entire control unit need to be replaced. Is this the correct terminology for this because I cannot locate replacement screens or bulbs.
Sorry for the lengthy post. I am hoping I can put together some sort of DIY post to help others with this. I also received a possible piece of insider info, I have read about the HeaterTreater fixes for the Ram and there is supposedly a Dodge Durango Kit being developed and released in the near future. I may try to wait on it if I can stand the 100+ degree weather. Thanks again guys and gals.

Yes, you can scan for codes. But you will need a scanner that can read all the modules. You could have dodge scan it for you, but i don't know what they would charge. Unless you know someone at the dealer.
Can anyone answer any of my previous questions? Would be helpful.
Is there anyway to recalibrate doors after replacement without using a computer? I read there was an ignition trick with older caravans, anything for the 2nd Gen Durango?
