Question 2007 Durango Limited 5.7L Hemi issues

I just purchased a this vehicle and am already experiencing issues...I love the truck so I really don't want to take it back, but I figured I would post on here to see if these are common issues and if anyone knows what to do to fix them...

1. I have a "GAS CAP" message that came on the day after I brought it home.

2. I am now hearing some sort of rubbing sound coming from the front of the engine. Almost like a bearing issue in the fan?

3. I hear a hissing sound that increases and decreases in the cabin. I thought it was from the A/C but it still occurs when I have the A/C off.

4. The lights on the radio and A/C panel are very dim and nearly impossible to see in the daylight. I tried adjusting the light level but that does nothing except change the intensity of the dashboard lighting.

5. And just yesterday, after having the vehicle for 4 days, the "Check Engine" icon illuminated on the dash board. It happened prior to purchasing the vehicle, and was told it was an O2 sensor, and was told it was fixed. Not sure if that correlates with the "GAS GAP" indication or not.

So far, that is all...I am taking it to where I bought the vehicle and they are going to look into it, but I would also like to get some feedback from other Dodge owners who aren't trying to sell me a vehicle and have an unbiased opinion :-) Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds like you need a mechanic to look it over and get these issues fixed. Doesn't sound like anything major. At least you got a CEL, so it will have a code they can lookup to see what's going on.

The lights on the climate and radio sound almost like your lights are on. If the lights are on during the day night, the radio/nav will go dim. Make sure your lights aren't on and the switch is set to automatic (A).

Make sure the recall for the gas overfill issue has been done. It's free from Dodge, no matter how many miles. If you fill up the gas tank completely, the gas pump will shut off and a good amount of gas will spew out. This TSB fixes it.

Chek fan's cover. Maybe it touches to propeler. I had this issue.

If A/C button is off, but fan is blowing to the window - A/C still works.

Was the fan cover something you repaired yourself? If so, how difficult was it to complete?

Im not following you on the A/C issue...Could you elaborate a little about the A/C being "off but still blowing to the window"? Are you saying that even when the A/C is in the OFF setting, it is actually still running?

Thanks for the information! How do I go about finding out if the recall has been done or not? Do I have to take it to a dealer, or can I look it up based on the VIN# on a website?

Just call your Dodge dealer's service department. You might want to verify if you have the issue, fill her up to the max. Either way, all 2007/2008 Durangos are under the warranty repair. A lot of 2004-2006 owners have the issue as well but didn't get covered for some reason.

IFlyEm,

If you PM me your Vin and just say send recall info, I will check for any recalls that apply to your vehicle and let you know.
