Default Newbie transmission question

Hello everyone. I hope you guys here can help point me in the right direction. I have 2005 Durango with about 90,000 on the clock and two wheel drive. Today I was driving down the freeway and went to accelerate and as I went stepped on the throttle to merge on into the lane I felt a cluck and had no power. Engine was running just fine as I pulled to the side of the freeway. I put the car in park then back in drive and did not feel the transmission engage. I then went through the range of gears and got nothing. After I got the Durango towed home I started it back up and noticed a whirring sound when in park and in each gear but no engaging of the transmission. Watching the tach the RPM's act like its going into gear but no forward or back words movement.

Ive never dealt with these new electronically controlled Chrysler transmissions the last Chrysler transmission I dealt with was a 904 in a 72 Road Runner so these are totally Greek to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to DF
The problem maybe the torque converter and pump. Did you have the transmission service at anytime before you have the problem?

Why thanks for the welcome.... As far as I know this tranny has never been cracked open. I know in the last three years Ive had it Ive never had anything done on it. Ive been thinking about it but have not had the time to change the filter. From what Ive read here on the forum everything points to the TC or pump. That sucks!
