Hey guys, I need some help here if possible.

2005 Durango AWD 5.7l Limited

I have had the SVC 4WD light on my dash for about 4 months. Recently, I got in the truck, started it up and for some reason the towing neutral light was lit on the 4wheel selector switch. The truck would not go into any gear while that was on. I went through the manual and found out how to disable the neutral and it worked. I went on my way, about 15 miles down the road while on cruise control the truck on its own switched into neutral and would not switch back into any gears, much like the towing neutral does. I was stranded. Tried everything I could to reverse it, but no luck.

Any ideas as to what could cause that?

I have a cheap scanner tool, but it doesnt seem to be able to pull any codes, I assume that maybe I need a dodge specific tool. I want to avoid the dealer if possible. I have heard some auto parts stores will plug into it, is that true?

The check engine light is not on, just the SVC 4WD, will that put out a code?

The switch needs replaced,There isn't a TSB on it yet but on it's way.Yours isn't the 1st to do this...

Thanks! after looking at that other post, it looks like the TCM is likely the problem. Although, I have never had it go into 4lo, maybe mine decide to go into the neutral setting instead. I will replace that motor and see if that helps. Thanks again.
