I'm not sure what 'problems' you are referring to, but my 2005 Durango is a pleasure to drive. They did order a new fuel tank under warranty to fix a shut off valve problem, but other than that it is amazing with the HEMI.

Care to elaborate?

Jeff

In my humble opinion, DO NOT BUY THE PACIFICA! That thing is an over priced P.O.S.! That thing is so heavy and underpowered and small as hell inside. If you have even driven a Durango regardless of which generation, you will see what I am talking about. I don't see how you even compare the two. you do need to elaborate on teh problems you heard about....

My 04 Hemi has performed excellent. If you have the option of buying a Hemi, spend the extra money and do so. On the interstate driving about 75, I can get upwards of 21mpg.

Mine is a 2005 SLT with the 4.7L engine and Family Package (DVD console, etc.).

It's a great SUV with a nice handling and great security feeling. My ONLY concern is about the front bumper: it's too low that it affects the approach angle. So, if you're planning to do some off-road, keep it light to take care of it. I already scratch (just a little) the black air dam below the bumper. Anyway, it's also too big for that.

The turning cicle ratio is very impressive. Better by far than my other car (Mitsu Montero Sport).

The power, in this engine, is really good from zero. It accelerates very impressive. I don't know if it happens with the HEMI but the 4.7L keeps the throtle wide open and retains the 1st gear while the engine is cold. So it sounds like a big truck during initial acceleration the first 10 (or less) minutes. After that, it's totally silent. If you do a test ride, make sure the engine was already turned-on or keep this note in mind. This is not a highway racing machine. During heavy braking it can tends to wonder at the back if you are over 70mph.

The gas cunsumption is aceptable considering that it is a v8. Average 21 highway, 16 City (using the provided trip computer).

In summary: this is a great Family SUV vehicle for long and short trips.

I will suggest to wait for the 2006 models. Some new features will be added. Exterior will be the same (I hope) but some interior, engine and other things will make it a better SUV to drive and have.

Regards,

I own a Silver 05 Limited Durango HEMI and I love it, no problems. I had to get used to the power after driving a Ford Ranger 4cyl (very slow). I can't say enough about it. Great Ride and none of the other SUV's or Trucks can beat you!!

hi acdc_mex. I've not posted much here but I'd thought I'd chime in on this one. First off let me say that I absolutely LOVE my '05 Durango Hemi. I bought it primarily as a grocery getter / Tow vehicle for our popup camper and it does both those thing magificantly. Pleanty of power; solid secure feel for the family....great vehicle!
That being said, I have had problems but so far these have been taken care of under warenty. These have encluded; a bad battery - that caused it to run intermitanly poorly and stall a few times. Finally the battery died altogether and it stalled out in traffic- replaced the battery under warenty and it has run fine ever since. I had to have the dash lights capasitor recall accomplished. The fuel tank had to be replaced because of a faulty shut off valve that let fuel splash out when refueling. The last thing I have had to have fixed is that on my D -I don't know if all GenII D's have this- has that dual zone AC controls and only warm air would come out of the back vents with the a/c on. They had to replace the divertervalve? Anyway, that's all the problems I have had with mine and it has all been covered under warenty. If I had had to pay for these repairs out of my own pocket I'm not so sure how pleased I be with my D, but I am overall extremly happy with it.
