Noooby here! Sound System on a 2008 Durango?
Hi all! I'm new and very please to be part of this huge Dodge family!
I would like to know how do I know if my sound system is amplified or not?
I'm trying to change my radio but I need to know that to buy my wire harness kit.
Thanks in advance for your help!
BTW. I have 2008 Dodge Durango SLT 4.7L

Manny,
Welcome. If you want to PM me your vin I will send you a build sheet with everything that was included on the vehicle from the factory.
Does it have the Infinity logo on the door panel near the exterior mirrors? Additional features such as the steering wheel control and rear seat dvd system?
As a sort of FYI, the head units are all basically similar whether you have the amp or not. Infinity gives you the amp, better speakers and possibly a sub woofer depending on vehicle. All the head units contain an amplifier internally that would allow the same head unit to work in any Chrysler vehicle.
For you, the big tell is Infinity. If yours has that with 9 speakers, 2 per door a small tweeter up higher and woofer down lower and 1 sub in the back cargo area then it has the external amp that requires the correct "amplifier" harness that you mention.
The amp I believe is behind the back driver side plastic panel with or near the sub woofer. Changing out the head unit with the correct harness will not really gain you much other than features such as USB input, bluetooth (unless you have Uconnect) and or IPod control. Sound will still drive through the factory amp and be limited by what it produces.

Same question here, 2008 SLT AWD, 4 speaker setup. Best Buy said that there was an amp under L/F passenger seat, I see the box, connected to underside of seat, but not sure if it is an amp. They installed Infinity Kappa 60.9 speakers for me 4 years ago, sounds fine. I think the 6 DVD head unit puts out 16 WPC, but it's not RMS; RMS is closer to 9 WPC, but if somebody knows better, please let me know. I went with the Infinity Kappas because they are 2 OHM and for their 95 DB sensitivity.
