Any power gains from CAI on 4.7?
Hey, im still pretty new to the forum and well i got a 07 Chrysler Aspen with the 4.7 Gas engine. So i can see that i can just take out the Stock Air box and put on a Cone filter right on. Now will the increase any power at all, any HP? Will putting something around it to block any heat from the engine help? And will the Intake be safe for the engine, like if some heat gets in is it safe?
I rather make my own Intake than buy one for like triple the price of making one. So is there any gains on it or should i just leave it stock with the K&N Air Filter i have already on it. Also any differences in sound, Throttle Response, MPG?
Anyone done it on theres and seen any increases?

I had a K&N complete CAI on my 2004 4.7 along with a Flowmaster CAT Back and some friends that had unmodified 4.7 Durango's could believe the difference. I put it on my 2008 4.7 but it did increase the noise much more than the 2004. The 2004 would routinely get 20 mpg on the highway and could get 22 if I kept it under 70.

Thanks for the info, i appreciate more too.
That's pretty good if you had 20 MPG on the 04 Durango, the MPG is rated at 18 for highway for both the Durango and Aspen w/4.7. Do you have a pick of how it looks like? Cause im thinking about making our own using the stock tubes and just taking out the Air Box and sticking a Spectre Cone Filter on it. and maybe putting something on that would block some heat from the engine or something. What do you think?
As for power gains was it noticeable, and throttle response? Anyone here done there own CAI, WAI, etc?

Nice looks pretty cool, pretty much i can have the same thing just by putting on the Cone filter on the stock tubing? Or should i change out the tubing too with something else, any suggestions? Thanks for the pic btw.
Do you know or think heat from the engine gets into the filter? Alone just the Intake you think will make Noticeable gains?
EDIT: Also how many sensors are there if i want to replace the whole thing?

The K&N website does show a 17HP gain and yes there is a pretty well engineered metal heat shield that almost seals to the hood. Their is just one sensor the air temp sensor and its just a hole with rubber grommet. If you want some pieces of mine let me know. I just use a K&N drop in filter now.

You gonna sell yours?
Im thinking about using a good tube from the TB to the filter. You think i should take out the whole entire stock tubing and that black silencer thingy and make a whole intake. Or just stick on a Cone filter on the end of the stock tubing? What do you think?
Hey also you sure there will be power gains from this alone? Cause off course K&N will say there was this much increase but possibly there test car must have been modded.

This kit made a noticeable difference over the stock Air intake. I didn't like the additional noise it made on my 2008. Again on my 2004 it made now where near the same amount of noise. I modified the K&N so I can use the tube and still use the stock airfilter intake much quieter. Again I will say and confirm the day I took this off my 2004 and drove it to the dealer to trade it in it was a much different truck, the butt dyno felt much more sluggish.
