Default 06 4.7L SLT / C.E.L. on won't go above 2500 RPM

Hello all,

First post here. Coming for help with an issue on my 06 4.7 SLT. Got in from vacation today and had to drive about 170 miles to drop my parents off, then pickup the dog at the inlaws. When leaving the inlaws the check engine light came on and the car would shift wildly if I tried to go over 2500 or so RPM. Almost like the computer was governing the RPMs. If I stayed below 2500 RPM it would shift fine and run fine and go as fast as I tried to go(never got over 55mph). I read here about LIMP mode but I don't think that is what mine is doing as it shifts fine below 2500 RPM. I checked all fluids when I got home and everything looked fine. I did rev the engine in park here at home and it would cut out at 4000 RPM when in park. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Brad

The engine has a rev limiter at 4000 RPM while in park so that is unrelated to your shifting problem. master tech, a site moderator, is the transmission expert on this site.

Thank you. I'm going to check some connections underneath today as I just took the Durango through a car wash with the undercarriage spray prior to the vacation. Do you think it would be safe to drive forty miles round to a parts store with a scanner?

Well I didn't know my neighbor had a code reader until I was telling him about this. He came down and read the code and it came out with a P0340 code. Cam Position Sensor. Looks like I'll replace it and see what happens.

BTW, he cleared the code and it didn't come back on.

Thanks,

Brad
