Default Swishing sounds

Hiya! I could use a little help. My 05 durango slt is making swishing noises from the front brake area. The other day it started humming. I thought I need brakes. I took it to the shop and they say it's not my brakes. It's my transfer case or transmission. It runs fine, just a swishing sound from the brakes. I'm thinking maybe AWD bearings..but I'm worried that when I take it in tomorrow to a transmission place they're gonna tell me the most expensive thing just to make money. Any thoughts or tips for me to tell if it is really what they say.

Get a second opinion from another mechanic before you dive into an 'expensive' repair especially if you are not familiar with the shop.

It's hard to diagnose noises without hearing them. But it could be a wheel bearing or differential.
