2nd Gen Durango 2004 - 2009

Need help - water issue

Had some flash floods here and I had to drive through about 2 1/2 to 3' of water. Truck ran just fine for about 20 min and then started running really rough. Got it home, let it sit over night and today I drove it to work but it is still running very rough. Trying to get it up to 40 MPH is a chore. It doesn't stall when I stop, but idles rough. I got an engine light on as well. I'll post the engine codes at lunch time. Any thoughts would be awesome?

I can't have my truck go down or I will be in big job trouble. I've just recently spent $3500 to $4000 getting it up to snuff. Water was only about the hieght of the front bumper.

OK, got the codes:

First Code: P0302 Cylinder #2 Misfire
Second code: P2305 Ignition Coil B Sec Circ

I wonder... will this dry out over a couple days or is a replacement/repair required?

Do you know if the exhaust was under water?

It would have been, yes. Total time was probably about 30 seconds.

It could be your differential is flooded with water as well as the engine. Try to remove the spark plugs and turn the engine to see if any water got into the cylinders. This should purge some of the water.

but this happened 2-3 days ago and I have been driving it anyway. Even on the freeway (80KM an hour) do you think there would be water in the cylinder after all the driving?

I have it scheduled for the shop on Tuesday so I'll let them "soak" me for the repairs. As of today, I am not driving it anymore. I'll follow-up here with the results then. Thanks for the suggestions.

the water thing is probably just a coincidence going off the codes i'd be pulling the spark plug on #2 and checking the plug/boot out

Got the truck back yesterday. They ended up cleaning the throttle body, changing the plugs, two coils, the air filter, PCV valve and a few other things for $1,000.

I am now going to unload this thing. It's a money pit. Going to see if I can trade it in on a GMC Yukon Denali (2004) today. Had enough of this truck and the $1000 a month operating costs.

Did that clear the codes? The 2004 has a lot of issues and recalls. I had a 2003 before my 2007 and never had one problem with it. My 2007 had a few minor problems in the last six years such as the fuel tank purge problem that was later recalled. My brother had a Yukon Denali (2005-2007?) and it had electrical problems and was eventually covered by the lemon law. He went out and bought a newer Yukon Denali and drove it for four years without a problem. My wife has a 2012 LTZ Suburban to lug our daughters around and they are great vehicles, but I do not expect it to be trouble free. All manufacturers will have problems with their vehicles and some can not be traced to one model or model year. You seem to have picked the worse model year for the Durango. I would stay away from the first model year or generation model year with any vehicle.

I know. What you're saying is so true. We've decided to keep it around since we paid $6500 for it and in the last 10 months, we've put about $7k in. So we have about 13.5k into it. We're hoping that it will last a while now that we have fixed just about everything that can go wrong with it. We did go and look at a couple Yukon's the other day and they are pretty rough looking 04's and 06's. This Durango looks like brand new still; inside and out. Of course, thats just aesthetics.

I never had these issues when I drove $2k beaters. Those beaters lasted 4+ yrs before dying and then I would just go buy another. That's $4k every 8 years. My last car ('98 Intrigue), I drove it for 4 years and change the oil TWICE before it died. Paid $2500 for it. If this truck has any more issues, I'm going back to the beaters - lol
