Default Water getting on Serpentine Belt???

So the weather was horrible over the weekend and many areas had small rivers flowing over the roads. My wife was driving our 06 durango slowly over some standing water and all of a sudden the battery light started flashing, then the power steering tightened up. 3 seconds later you heard a squeal in the belt. This was just outside our neighborhood so she came and got me and we went back through it...5 miles an hour...did it again. The whole episode might have only been 5-7seconds. Then it was over. Any idea what happened? It was as if water got on the belt and caused it to slip maybe...sending a reaction...? Then the next day her AC went in and out briefly for a few moments. Nothing since then. Thanks for any help.

The belt may have stretched. I have replaced mine twice in the lat six years.

Default No Puddles.

I try not to drive mine through puddles. At least on the passenger side. I've driven through standing water on the side of some of streets after a good rain and water will splash up underneath the hood. I will hear a loud squeal and lose power steering for a few seconds. Then after a few seconds it is fine. I don't have any issues until I do it again.
