Ignition Accessory Delay
2006 Durango SLT My mechanic has replaced the battery and the "auto shut down" module because it was losing battery charge overnight and didn't want to start without a jump. Tonight I noticed that the light (clock) on the radio was still on some time after I had gotten home and turned off the car. It is now almost 5 hours since I got here and I can still raise and lower windows, turn on the wipers and the radio, all without the key being anywhere near the vehicle, and without having used the lock/unlock on the key fob or opening or closing a door. Is there a way to simply disable that feature myself, or could that problem be solved by replacing a control module for that feature? Another thing I have noticed is that sometimes the horn-beep works when I lock the car with the key fob, and other times it doesn't. Same with the flash of the lights for unlocking. Then after driving it, it will switch and work when it didn't before or vice versa. Any chance these two things are related? Thanks in advance for any help you could give me.
Here's an update. Technician at the Dodge dealer (whom my local mechanic had called and talked to, as he was having no luck figuring this out) felt that it might have a problem with the "body control module". Seems that is a dealer only repair, as they have the computer that can read those codes, and regular non-dealer mechanics do not. So I take it to the Dodge dealer service center, and they still can't figure it out for a while, as the problem isn't reproducible there at the shop, and no codes are popping up on their scans. They finally figure that the ignition switch in the steering column is defective, and the key can be removed in any position, not just in "off". Further, after driving a Japanese car, I am used to turning the key all the way back counterclockwise in order to remove it. So I was actually putting the switch in "accessory" and removing the key, and since the switch is defective, it is not preventing me from doing this. Also, the horn wouldn't beep when I locked it up like that, as the car thought the key was still in the ignition. This also was draining the battery and, with a weaker older battery, would need a jump to get started. With the new battery it was starting OK, but still was doing the other squirrelly things noted above. I just got it back from the dealer service center today, so I'll post again if this doesn't fully solve the problem.
