Another facet to the cowl issue is the fact that the clips that hold the cowl down can break allowing the gasket between the cowl and the windshield to separate. When this happens the water runs directly onto the engine.
Keep an eye on this area and if you replace the cowl, I would recommend a bead of caulk along the inside edge.
