Default Brake issues

Just bought a 2006 Limited 4.6 v8 Durango When I test drove the truck I noticed the truck would slightly rock back and forth upon braking. I immediately thought warped rotors. I asked the used dealer to drop some off the price and they immediately showed me where they has replaced the pads and front rotors. They stated they probably just needed to be broke in. I did agree as I thought the same thing myself. But after driving it a week it seems no better. Just looking for advice on how I should proceed from here. Should I have the rear rotors checked or just keep driving it and see if it gets better? How long should it take for things to get broke in? The truck brakes fine no issues on stopping, but has a shimmy especially when stopping at low speeds. Any advice would be helpful. Any idea on average cost for those rotors turned or replaced?

Rotors are relatively cheap so they most likely would be replaced.

DrummerboyX,

Any updates on your brake concerns?

I would recommend either speaking with the selling dealer to see if they can inspect them for you again or get a second opinion.

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.

Cleaning the rotors and pads with some break cleaner "might" help. You can inspect the rotors and look for dark / darkened spots on them. If they have darkened or dark spots on the shiny surface then some kind of crud has gotten on there (probably grease from their installation) and is causing the pads to grab more on those areas than the other areas of the rotor causing the pulsing sensation you feel.

Once a dark or darkened spot is on a rotor it most likely has to be turned a small amount to get the crud off. If caught early you might be able to just clean it off and scuff up the face of the brake pad.

Centrix brakes website has experimented with "warped rotor" claims and found there is no such creature. Instead the rotor or pads get some kind of gunk on them which causes the pads to grab more in that small area and it "feels" like the rotor is warped.

I'm sure somewhere, somehow, a rotor has actually warped so but so far my experience is as Centrix stated: gunk on the rotor.
