Spark plug swap
I am going to change the plug on my 2009 Durango 4.7 l it has 95000 miles on it and the plug have never been changed.. Does anyone have any tips/tricks or things to look out for.
Champion copper. Gap to .045. Use antisieze and dielectric grease on the new plugs. Do not overtighten because that is an aluminum head. Twist the plug in there and you will have some issues. Have a variety of socket extensions so you can reach the plugs any way you can. Plan about 4 hours to do the job if you take your time.
I'm not sure if the plugs are the same as my 03 4.7 but I cut a piece of old garden hose about 10" to 12" inches long. The 5/8 plugs fit perfectly into the end of the hose. I crack the plug loose with the socket then jam the hose down over the plug to run it out. It also helps to start the fresh plug back into the motor without cross threading. The hose gives you much more feel. I never had much luck with those spark plug sockets. Also you might want to give the coil hold down nuts a quick shot of pb blast a day or two before if they have any rust on them. 10mm deepwell to remove them. Like silver said you will def. need a swivel and a couple diff. size extensions. The ones in the back are real muthafuc***s to reach. Good luck
don't get any antisieze on the area where the plug seals to the head. will mess up the necessary friction to get the correct amount of torque on the plug.
