Shutoff during driving?
My mom was driving her 06 Durango 4.7 lt 2 wd as it just shut down on her... What dose this mean I think it's the alternator? And if so is that easy to fix? Or replace or is it somthing else?also the check engine light is on!
It could be bad wiring between battery, alternator, etc. Something as simple as a wire being too close to the exhaust pipe and getting too hot. Could also be a shorted wire, two wires causing an arc between them, etc.
That is, if it started back up again right away. If not, then I couldn't tell you. My friend has an issue with this right now with his wiring getting too wet from moisture coming up off the road or leaking in around the hood and shorting out and arcing between the wires. In which it's a relatively cheap fix, it's just figuring out which wires that's a hassle.

Did the check engine lamp come and stayed on after you were able to restart the vehicle? It could be a loose connection at the PCM. Or maybe you are loosing the crank or camshaft sensor signals. If the vehicle didn't restart, then I would check fuel pressure.
