Default Overheating/antifreeze leak

I have a 2007 Durango SLT with the 4.7, I was told my tow capacity is 6500lbs, my camper is 4500 dry.

After towing for 4 hours or so, I develop a overheating issue. I was using A/C.

If I switch the heat on some it does help.

I also believe that I have a slow leak somewhere, I can smell antifreeze when I start the vehicle and after a while, I do need to put in antifreeze.

I did change the thermostat about 2 years ago.

When I open the radiator cover(cold), there is a gurgle and antifreeze seems to empty into the jug on the right, sometimes spilling out.

Is this normal?

Thank you,

Steve

You can sort out your towing capacity with the owners manual.

http://www.dodge.com/en/owners/manuals/

You need to do a cooling system pressure test to locate the leak. You can buy an inexpensive test kit for about $100 - what your local garage will charge to perform the test.

If you'd like to throw a $20 dart at it, try replacing the radiator cap. After 7 years it'll be due for replacement regardless.

You might have an airlock. I've been having overheating issues for a while and after replacing water pump thermostat rad cap my buddy looked it over and said there's probably an airlock. It was not something I even thought of.
