Default New Durango what accesories must have on it?

Hi:

I want put some accesories on my new Durango, but I will prefer invest in the realy importants to care it and give me a better ride.

My Durango is a 2005 HEMI SLT, I am thinking get the following:

DASHMAT: some suggestions?

SEAT COVERS: I put Costco Sheep skins covers a little tight but very confortable and cheaper ($40 each)

WINDOWS SHIELDS: those give any advantage or is only fashion.

TOWING PACKAGE: any suggestion I don't have a big boat but maybe a U-HAUL trailer.

AIR FILTER: K&N has a good consumption perfomance

EXHAUST: Really I don't like the standard seems the HEMI has problems with that, any suggestion and I suppose that I can install by myself.

FUEL DOOR: Really I prefer that my gas tank be secure (with the price of the gasoline), but I dont not if there is one wiht key or the cap of the tank has key.

Over the dash there is a sensor, somebody knows for what is used?

Let me know your impressions.

All personal preference stuff. Summit Racing sells a few heavy rubber floor kits custom fit for the 04+ Durango for either the cargo area or the entire car. I'd think you would be fine without a tow package unless your towing often.

If your going for an air filter just upgrade the entire air intake with a kit or fabricate your own to save some cash. Probably not much gain to be had with just a drop in filter.

No idea on this one. I'd go to an autozone or something after you figure out if the gas cap is vented or non-vented. I'm not sure on that one, but they should have a standard locking cap that will work with vented or non-vented. I need to get one of these myself...

If it is in front of the dash and not on the roof console it is probably for the Automatic headlight thing. It detects when it is dark enough outside to flip on your lights automatically.

Hi there,

I installed custom fit seat covers with the Durango and horns logo embroidered. They were very easy to install for all three rows and look very nice.

For the towing package: check this site: http://www.1800hitchit.com/
They have a custom fit one that you install right on the existing crossmember. You will need to drill two holes but the price is below $100. I saw the original one on a Limited and the difference is that it's welded to the crossmember. The site also provides you with installation diagrams so you will have an idea on how it works. Towing capacity is 6000 pounds good enough for a 18+ foot boat. Nice for bikes rack too.

Air filter: try to keep things at the stock level. But, if you have the $$, go with the K&N filter element. It has some cool features (washable). Part number is 33-2288.

About the dashmat.... mmmm. That sounds llike the 70's.

Question: do you have the foldable side mirrors? If not, that's another thing that you can get and complete your outside look to a Limited one. There's a site that sell each one for about $150. You will need the VIN number of one that has them to make sure you get the correct ones.

Have a nice ride.

Here's an accessory you must have for your Durango if you ride bikes - a sweet roof rack by Rocky Mounts. I bought one new for my 2004 Durango and it works great. It was really easy to put on my factory racks and it didn’t require any special help. I highly suggest The Noose bike rack that they offer since it was only $85 - works awesome and looks great in a variety of colors to match your ride. It was the only rack that actually fit on with no problems at all! Their website is rockymounts.com

Hi dnhillracer,

About the picture you posted, is that a Durango 2004+? Does the price includes the cross rails? And.... is that your Bike? It looks great but my problem is that I'm 5'-8" and the roof is pretty tall to me even using a plastic step. I had a Ford Explorer Sport, with a roof rack, and I had to use a a plastic step to reach a comfortable position during installation and removal of my bike.

The -D- is even taller but I'm planning to go with the hitch receiver (I already have the hitch rack).

Thanks for the comments and the picture!

Regards,

Hi Erwinf,

That picture is of my old Outback, but it is the same exact rack and bike that I currently use. The rack is universal and fits on pretty much any factory roof rack system so I can use it between different vehicle makes. I haven't yet taken pictures of it on my Durango. I like to use the hitch receiver for other things like my trailer and storage bin when I go on big trips to the mountains, so the rack is best for these situations and cars that don't have receivers.

Thanks,

Is that's a "monoshock"? Cool bike. Mine is an IronHorse Hollowpoint Expert (2004). As soon as I get my rack ready I will post a photo with my bike on it.

Post a photo of yours when you have the time. Thanks for the info! I will check the site to see what they have new.

Regards,
