Default Parking brake "catch" on reverse?

I have an '06 Durango and over the past couple of months, my wife has been telling me it has been "locking up" on reversing sometimes. I had never experienced it doing it, but it is her DD, so that could be why. Then the other day it did happen to me. Our driveway is downhill at slight angle and we reverse out/up the hill.

When reversing sometimes, maybe 1 out of 10 times or even less, after the truck moves about half a car length it does exactly as she described - it locks as though you suddenly put on the brakes.

Sometime, if you pull forward a bit and then go again it doesn't happen and it never happens moving forward. I have found one thing that does "fix" the issue every time. If it locks, just pull forward, push in parking brake release it again and all is well.

So, I am thinking I have some sort of catch going on but not sure which side or what exactly the problem could be. Any thoughts on that? Also, the parking brake seems to be working, but doesn't have the resistance when pushing the pedal in - this makes me think it is only one side.

Problem is, I don't want to pull the wheel and rotor off before being prepared. This is her only daily driver so i need to make sure it isn't sitting while waiting on parts.

That being said, I had another question. I came across this kit at a great price from 1AAuto:

One problem - it is saying that it is only for 07-09 which makes no sense, I thought all gen 2 parts like this fit all gen 2 models. Am I missing something? I called to talk with them and got some lady who really was just a mouthpiece who looked the same part up and told me their "product testing" has verified it only works with 07-09. She said they had no equivalent part that matches for an 06.

So, am I missing something here? Is there really a different in the 06? These parts all look to be exactly the same as the 06. Individually, these parts are obviously a lot more expensive. Thanks!

Mike

Both. Disc plus drum for parking brake.

Ah.

Think I would yank the rotors, and clean things up real good for the e-brake. A bit of junk in there that pushes the rear shoe against the drum, and you'll stop right quick. Rear shoe is self-energizing.....
