Default erratic shifting hard shifting and traction lights

Ok so my wife has a 2007 dodge durango 4.7 4x4 it's been erratically shifting for about a month it's like it can't decide what gear it needs to be in. It just jumps back and forth from gear to gear without change in throttle while on a flat road. Then today it started hard shifting while jumping back and forth for gear to gear but then the traction control light will come on and it will run the way it should. After a few minutes the light goes out and the process starts all over if anyone has any idea what's going on I'd appreciate a little insight please and thank you

We had checked it just came up with an evap leak code which was told its most likely the gooseneck from the gas tank but I didn't think that would cause those issues but it was also just a normal code reader so it didn't have the capability to read transmission codes

try turning traction control off and see what happens. if it affects anything at least you are pointing in the right direction

When cruising and rpms are at 2000 it will raise to 2500 OR 3000 depending if it dowshifts one or 2 gears. And haven't tried the traction control when we put it in overdrive it did help for a few days but then it stopped making a difference
