Default Airbag Warning Light

I have a 2009 (manufactured 2008) 4WD Durango SLT 5.7L Hemi that's done almost 70K miles. About a year ago I noticed that the Airbag Warning Light was coming on for 20 or 30 seconds and then going off again. I ignored it but over the period of a few weeks the duration and frequency of the light coming on got longer and longer until it was on all the time. After the car had been in for a routine oil change the light was off again but as the weeks went by it gradually started coming on as before. I queried the local dealer (I'm in the Middle East by the way) and they said they could change the complete system but it would be mega-bucks. They didn't offer any other solution. Shortly after that I had to get a replacement battery - they only last about a year or so in the desert heat so its a fairly routine thing here. After the battery had been replaced the Airbag Warning Light was off again, gradually coming on after a couple of weeks etc. So I disconnected the battery myself and this seems to fix the problem for a few weeks then the warning light starts to come on again. I'm baffled. Anybody got any ideas or had a similar experience?

Need to get the codes for the SRS system read, and see what it thinks the problem is. Need a pretty high-zoot scanner to read the SRS system though......
