265 70r17 vs 245 70 r17
I have a 2004 Dodge Durango 4wd V8 and I am in desperate need of some tire knowledge. Would using 265 70 R17 on my Durango make a difference? I know that the preferred size is the 245 70 R17 but I'm having a hard time finding them.
I'm sure it would affect my speed but would do any damage? Would they fit correctly?

The wider the tire, the better the grip, especially during the winter.

Incorrect. Skinny tires are preferred for winter driving.
The reason for this is that traction is achieved in winter by cutting through the ice and snow. With wider tread, you're more likely to start snow plowing or floating on top of the surface instead of pushing down and through. This floating will result in loss of traction sooner than with a thinner or narrower option
You might be able to get away with using 265/70R17 tires on your Durango, but it's not the ideal size. The preferred size for your vehicle is 245/70R17. Using a smaller tire might lead to some speed and performance issues, so I would recommend sticking with the preferred size if possible. Additionally, make sure that the tires you select will fit correctly on your Durango. The last thing you want is for them to rub or cause other problems.
