Default Anti-theft & AirBag light on: then no start

My ignition cylinder is such that you can shut the car off, but then accidentally click one more back, take out the key and then it drains the battery. This happened three times in three days (daughter's first time driving). It fried the battery every time so we jumped it off. After the last jump off I noticed that now the anti-theft and air bag sensor were on while driving, but, it was still driving so I figured I would deal with it later. Then, the next time this happened (key taken out in wrong position) the car wouldn't start, and with the jump it started then quickly died. Got a new battery and nothing, car won't start or crank, just a singular click. When I turn the key to the on position all the lights come on, and after a minute that darn anti-theft again. I am not sure what the actual problem is here but I feel like it has to do with that airbag/anti-theft. But how? And how do I fix it?
