2005 Durango - Unwanted acceleration
My 2005 Durango 5.7 Hemi keeps accelerating after touching the gas pedal. I can get it to stop by putting my foot behind the pedal and bringing it back. Is this a Throttle Body problem?
Over the last several years the Electric Throttle Body light would come on very sporadically causing the SUV to run very rough. Turning it off and then back on after a minute or two seems to clear the problem and then it wouldn’t happen for months. Could this be a Throttle Body that has been slowly going bad over time?
I have looked online and replacing the Throttle Body looks fairly straightforward. But before spending the money on that, I wondered if there would be another cause.

If the lamp came on, you should either have some stored or active codes. First I would check the throttle cable and see if it moves freely and check the gas pedal and make should the carpet isn't holding your gas pedal to where it is sticking.
I had the same problem with my 2004 5.7. I took the accelerator pedal and stripped it down. There is a “damper” and it was this sticking that caused the problem. Copper greased it and it worked for a while. Eventually I took it out. Pedal is now very sensitive but doesn’t take too long to get used to it.
Hope this helps

I took out the throttle body and cleaned it with Throttle Body Cleaner from Autozone. Ran a little rough the first few times afterward but now runs fine.
there was a lot of carbon buildup on the backside and damper.
