Headlight Issues
Hey everyone’
I have a question about a headlight issue that has been ongoing with my 2005 Durango for a little while now. Long story short I had my headlight blow out and when I went to remove the lamp, I couldn’t get it to budge! Ended up having to break it apart with pliers to get the bulb out - which resulted in having to replace the socket as well - but it needed to be anyway at that point. What happened is that it seems the pins from the headlight lamp and the socket from the connector seemed to have some arcing going on, which eventually melted the surrounding plastic and fuses the lamp to the connector as well.
So anyway, I went ahead and got a new connector and installed it and finally had two headlights again, for about a week...till it went again! Took it apart to see WTF is happening and couldn’t believe it when I realised the exact same problem happened again with my brand new lamp and socket!
I dont know what to do here to fix this issue completely, and am hoping someone out here in the forum can please gimme a hand & some idea what’s happening! I did read something on the 1st gen Durango forum where someone was having the same issue and someone responded saying that they thought it was the result of a bad ground and to fix it just run a new one from connector to the socket.
I just am looking for some ideas and direction on what to do here and hope that one of you seasoned Durango veterans have a solution for me! Thanks to everyone who was able to read everything I wrote above, I am new to Durango’s, and new to this specific forum as well, so I apologise Incase of any errors on my part and also for the crazy long post!
Appreciate any thoughts on advance and looking forward to hearing what y’all think about my situation.

Are both lamps out? And is it just low beams or high beams or both? I would check the ground wires on both sides with a DVOM or ohm meter. It could also be the CTM ( central timing module) which will cause other problems as well, like the door remote not working.
