Default Shift brake light problem

So I had this friend that took it upon himself to hook up a radio in my 05 Durango. To say the least all the dash lights came on and it didn't work. So coming out of the store I realize my brake lights are still on. So I Google and realize I needed a brake light switch. Go to auto parts buy the brake switch change it out and now the durango won't shift from park. It starts and you can unplug the battery and shift to neutral. Start the car and shift gears and drive but once your in park you have to do the process all over again. What could be going on?
It was fine a day earlier as I just changed all the o2 sensors. Now i have the neutral switch but upon looking it looks like I have to get into the motor or transmission. Alot more work than anticipated. Help how can it go do wrong so fast.

In review of the Dodge Forum rules let me be more clear on the Durango that I am explaining.
It is a 2005 4.7L AWD Dodge Durango. It has a bit of a lift to it and It has a manual 4lock that I can switch the transmission into, but I do not know the type of transmission.
So what happened was I came out of Walmart and my brake lights were on. Car was not running and the headlights were turned off. So i googled and found that the problem was the brake light switch, was cheap
enough repair for me to try and complete myself. I replaced the switch and then all four lights were staying on and the car would not move out of park. Now you can disconnect the battery and put the car into neutral and drive wherever, but as soon as you put it into park you have to disconnect the battery. Also there is no brake lights when you do this. So has anyone else had this problem and what was their solution?
