2004 Durango Towing questions
Hey I have a 2004 Dodge Durango with the 4.7L engine Automatic transmission 4x4 and we didn't get the factory towing package. I was wondering has anyone with a similar durango used theirs for pulling if so what was the heavy thing you pulled successfully. My mom wants to take mine and put a tow hitch on it and pull a two horse trailer with two horses in to horse shows in the mountains and the far side of town. Any input on how the durango handled, how well it pulled, and strange sounds etc. would be greatly appreciated. Though I am mainly interested in vehicle without factory tow package option ones with it would be nice too.
PS ignore my user name that is my other durango that is for offroad use only.

RE: 2004 Durango Towing questions
I have a 2006 Durango 4.7L, 2wd, no tow package. I have the 3.55 rear end. I tow a 5500 lb boat. It does a good job towing in flat terrain but you mention towing in the mountains. I would not recommend towing this load in the mountains without the higher gear ratio which I believe is 3.92. I just don't think you nor the car would be very happy. Do you know how much your trailer and Mr. Ed weigh?
