RE: A/C problem 04 durango
i think the underlaying problem is the software issue. when mine was checked and found to be over filled it stopped the problem for a day or two so i would suggest they disconnected the harness and doingso reset the codes and it took a day to relearn to screw up my ac.bottom line is the computer is telling the clutch not to engage at the wrong time. mine is going back into the dealer thursday and between now and then he is supposed to be looking into a software patch

RE: A/C problem 04 durango
I had the same problem with my new Limited Hemi. Took it to the dealership this morning, who ran the codes and gave me the following information from Chrysler re the AC problem:
Apparently, it's possible to turn the ignition on too slowly, thereby causing the PCM to throw a communications code and cause the problem with the compressor not turning on. This is related to the Sentry Key system, and is a software issue, which is why you're able to restart the car and everything's back to normal. The dealer recalibrated the PCM for me, but also advised to be deliberate when I turn on the car. Hope this helps out.

RE: A/C problem 04 durango
While attending the Dodge Vehicle Release tonight, I inquired about the a/c problems in the 04 Durango. The service dept was very concerned and found the following Service Bulletin.
Number: 08-007-04
Group: Elecrical
Date: 2/17/04
Subject: Intermittant operation of electrical components due to off draw (IDO) fuse not being fully seated
Models: 2004 (HB) Durango
Discussion: The ignition off draw (IOD) fuse is used to prevent battery discharge during shipping and long term storage of the vehicles. The IOD fuse is located in the power distribution center (PDC). The design of the new Durango fuse differs from the previous modules in that there is a two stage engagement. When the fuse is inserted to the first carrier, two distinct detents will be felt. If the fuse is inserted to the first detent, partial contact of the fuse terminals could occur. When the vehicle is prepped for customer delivery, ensure that the fuse is fully engaged I the second detent. The IOD fuse must also be fully released to prevent battery drain from occurring when the vehicle is stored. Some of the circuits fed by the IOD fuse are: Heater A/C, Radio, RKE/ Door Locks, Lighting, Horn, Overhead Console, Sun Roof etc
Policy: Information Only.
