Default Brake dust build up

Can we not design a brake pad that will not make the wheels filthy after 2 days of driving?? Its pathetic!
I wash my Durango and 2 days later the front wheels are disgusting!

If you properly wash and care for your wheels, dust will not be a problem for at least a week... if it bothers you that much, there are those dust shields you can buy

how do you wash your wheels?

I hear you!! I got an 06 Durango and the next day after I wash there is brake dust on the wheels. I have a buddy that put brake shields on his car, and they seem to work. I was going to see if I could find them for 17" wheels, I only saw 14" and 15" at the store.

Moparkj...I hand wash my Durnago and have waxed the the wheels in an effort to keep the dust from sticking to them. Do you have a magic wand or something? I'm not a fan of brake shields, they allow significant more heat to stay in that area.

Im not a fan of them either... I jsut dont like the look, but it was a suggestion. Im looking out the dorm room window at my Durango, and the wheels dont seem to have that much dust on them, it hasnt been washed in 4 weeks(its been sitting in the driveway at my dads house) but still.... Ill tell you what I do, its nothing special but you could try and see if it works for you too.

Wash entire truck
Wash wheels with a brush
Wipe every part of the wheel with a clean rag
Use Meg's Multipiece rim cleaner
Wipe with clean rag

Its simple, but it works for me and my 06 Durango, worked on the 03,04, and 05 also.... I wouldnt wax the wheels because it is not a painted area, so I see it as pointless I do wax my Liberty wheels though, because they are painted dark gray

I have the same problem!!!! [:@]

The first Brake pads set on USA cars are like laser printer toners: when you buy that pretty good looking great printer, it will come with a low duty toner that will go empty in less than a month. Then, you will buy an OEM high capacity and you will be happy.

As soon as these brake pads reach their end-of-life I will make sure to install fully metallic ones.

Regards,

I dont get what you guys are doing wrong? I detailed the truck last Wednsday, the only thing on my rims are water spots because it was sitting in a parking lot when it was raining... maybe it is the type of rim you have.... on my past 3 durangos Ive had the 17-inch cast aluminum wheels

Not too much.

My theory: big vehicles with strong inercia-gravity power and low quality brake pads to comply with cost reduction guidelines.

I only hand wash and baby it at that my Durango. Its an 05 with 17 in. aluminum wheels. You can go out and drive it after thoroughly drying it and drive around for a little while, get out and wipe your finger on the front wheels and there is a film of brake dust on your finger and its visible on the wheel. I'm not doing anything wrong. I just believe the pads are cheap a..!
