Default Newbie w/ quick question

I searched, but came up dry.
I just bought a 04 Durango Limited 5.7 with towing package. I the owners manual it talks about putting the transfer-case in neutral to tow? Does this make it just be rear-wheel-drive? If so, could I use this for regular everyday driving? Thus, getting a little better gas milage and saving wear-and-tear. Just curious.
Thanks

the transfer-case in neutral to tow?

Are you sure this is right? I can't see how you can function with the transfer in neutral. All available ranges at this point are/ should be disengaged.

When you put the transfer case in neutral, this 100% disengages the drive train making the vehicle ready to be towed. This is intended for towing behind a RV or tow truck. If you have a 4wd durango, most likley it is AWD, and then can be locked in 4HI or 4LO by turning the ****.
