That im not sure. I know you cant get it from the factory but talk to your dealer see if there is a plan to offer it as an option after the fact. You would have to change the front cover on the dash where the radio is now to compensate for the bigger radio but im sure they know something. it would probrably cost you a pretty penny though considering all the work that has to be done.. be sure that you really want it and it would be worth it to you... I got the GPS for my wife in her 300m and it is really cool. I think it was worth the extra bucks.. It talks you through every turn, traffic light, and detour. Even if you make a wrong turn it redirects you back on course.

I Have my '04 Durango SLT Hemi about 2 weeks now and I don't see anywhere near the milage these people are getting. They must live on very flat terrain. In Northeatern PA where every road is a hill of some kind I am getting at best 11.5 around town and about 13-14 on the highway.

guyjj1,

Being that I asked the original question about gas mileage and having my Hemi SLT for only 5 days now, I have to agree with everyones comments. I have only put on about 500 miles so far which includes 250 miles being on the interstate traveling at speed. I live in Wyoming, and believe me, there is nothing flat out here. Traveling 75 to 80 mph, I have seen 17.9 mpg. On the state highways traveling 55-65 mph as high as 19.0mpg.

I have 3.55 gears in the rear end. Check to see what you're running. Possibly 3.92? 80mph, I turn just at 2000rpm.

Another thing, if you run the Hemi hard for the Hemi power, your probably in the ball park for fuel economy. Try easier starts and keep the rpm's around 2000 or less if possible. You should see an improvement.

I have been taking it very easy on the gas pedal. Coasting whenever possible. I did not order 3.92 axle ratio. I can see 17 or 19 mpg if i reset the overhead monitor while cruisng down the higway for a stretch at about 75 mph but if I count in starting and stoping and any hills in between it is down to under 15 when I actually fill the tank up and do the math.

What kind of milage do you get around town?

When talking about gas mileage there are several things that need to be taken into consideration

1. Gear ratio. the 3.55 will get better mileage.
2. 2X4, 4X4, or AWD
3. The state you are in. Many states change to a winter grade of gas that reduces your MPG slighly.
4. Terain. People that live in higher elevations will get worse MPG.
5. The computer takes at least 2 tanks of gas to learn your driving style.

THe people that are seeing the higher numbers like myself will more than likely have the 3.55's and a 2X4. I am hoping to see 20+ on the highway once I get my Aero Turbine muffler installed.

The best advice I was ever given with regards to mileage on here I will pass on to you. It is waaay too early to bother comparing, or worrying about your mileage. The break in will significantly boost your mileage, its simply too early for that to have taken place. When I had my Ram as long as you have had your truck i was getting 8mpg max city, I sh*t you not. Now, after having it for a little over a month, with only about 1300k on it I am already looking at around 13 in the city. So dont sweat the mileage just yet!

Wow, I get around 11 mpg in city and lucky to get 17 on the highway. But then again, I'm not easy on gas, like to hear and feel that HEMI.

I have around 2,000 miles on my 4X2 Limited and average about 16 mpg with mixed driving. Better than expected.

I just got back from a trip to Florida (from the DFW area) and I averaged 18.4 mpg there and back with the AC on Auto, cruise set to 80 most of the way. I averaged 70 mph including stops. When we first left I did keep the RPM's down and stayed around 75mph and stopped after 220 miles. That tank I got 19.1 mpg. I believe that if you keep the RPM's below 1800 we can get alot more MPG's. At 78mph we are right at 2000 rpm with the 3.55 gears.

This was with 3 kids the wife and the D completely loaded with luggage.

Wow I wish I was getting that kind of gas mileage....19.1 mpg !!! That is really good !!! The only trip I took on the highway was when I bought my Durango from Annapolis, Maryland and drove it back here to Virgnia Beach, Virginia and averaging 70-75mph with the AC on, I was getting 17-17.5 mpg, but then again I have the 3.92 gears. Maybe later on when I add the free-flow intake from Intense Perfromance or if AIRRAM finally gets to making one for the 5.9 Durango, along with redone dual exhausts, and the larger Fastman Throttlebody, maybe then I will be able to get more power along with better gas mileage !!! I am praying to get 20+ mpg on the highway !!!
Is that 04 Durango a 4x4 tho? Must be a regular 2WD to get those mpg's. Also, you actually got 17 mpg on a Durango? Is it a SLT with 3.92 gears or a R/T? If it is a R/T, I envy you! If it is a SLT, I can see you getting 17 mpg. Man, wished I can get those kinds of mpg's on my 00 R/T. Best I can do is 13-14 on the highway. And I tested it at 55 and up to 75 and do not see any noticable improvement on the mpg's. I just recently got my injectors cleaned by the dealership and I noticed my low end torque improved after the cleaning! Gas mileage hasn't improved much. maybe .5 at best. Already changed out the wires, plugs, etc. and installed a K&N filter. Haven't changed to a cold air intake setup yet. Still not convinced that is so much better than the stock setup when my stock setup duct plumbing also is ported to the outside of the engine bay. Maybe when I find someone that has this cold air setup on a Durango and monitor his mpg and then I may be convinced.

Wished I can convert my full time AWD to a part time 4x4 or get one of those GM AWD on demand feature. Only use AWD when I want to.

Kensai,

Yes my 2003 Durango is a R/T model, I have all Synthetic fluid in the engine so maybe that helps a bit, also yes it if pretty flat here in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
