2004 Hemi Fuel Mileage
Looking at buying a 04 SLT Hemi in the next couple of days. Using DailmerChrysler employee discount and the rebates, a dealer quoted me $23K for a $34K Durango.
Just interested in what kind of fuel mileages folks have been getting.

Is that for a 4x4 or a 2wd ?? If for a 4x4 that is a very good price !!! I just bought a used but new to me 2003 Atlantic Blue R/T with 8K miles on it for $24K and I am very happy with it. I looked at the new 2004, and no offense but could not really get used to the new styling, I mean I know it would have grown on me, but I like the look of the generation 1. Anyways the best price I was able to get for a fully loaded 4x4 SLT and I mean fully loaded with the DVD entertainment was $32.5K.
Oh yeah to answer your question I believe that most people are getting what the EPA ratngs are 14-15 city and 18-19 highway. Of course if you are always on it enjoying the hemi power, then your mileage may vary !!!
I just got back from a trip to Florida (from the DFW area) and I averaged 18.4 mpg there and back with the AC on Auto, cruise set to 80 most of the way. I averaged 70 mph including stops. When we first left I did keep the RPM's down and stayed around 75mph and stopped after 220 miles. That tank I got 19.1 mpg. I believe that if you keep the RPM's below 1800 we can get alot more MPG's. At 78mph we are right at 2000 rpm with the 3.55 gears.

Its a 4x4 SLT.
As far as the $23K price....all I can its nice to have a father who has worked in the St. Louis North Assembly plants for over 36 years....empolyee discounts rock. I love going into a dealer and telling them I'm going to take a vehicle home for less than what they paid for it.

green slip rocks, I used it for mine, but at the time there where no rebates. If I'd bought it now It would have saved me over 9k from sticker.
I've got 5k miles on mine and it has averaged 15.5 miles since delivered. I have probably 3500 city miles and 1500 hiway

Wow I wish I was getting that kind of gas mileage....19.1 mpg !!! That is really good !!! The only trip I took on the highway was when I bought my Durango from Annapolis, Maryland and drove it back here to Virgnia Beach, Virginia and averaging 70-75mph with the AC on, I was getting 17-17.5 mpg, but then again I have the 3.92 gears. Maybe later on when I add the free-flow intake from Intense Perfromance or if AIRRAM finally gets to making one for the 5.9 Durango, along with redone dual exhausts, and the larger Fastman Throttlebody, maybe then I will be able to get more power along with better gas mileage !!! I am praying to get 20+ mpg on the highway !!!

Wished I can convert my full time AWD to a part time 4x4 or get one of those GM AWD on demand feature. Only use AWD when I want to.
We dont build an R/T just yet. Its still in the Coming Soon Category! The cool thing is that the 05 model year they are adding GPS Navigation. You should see the screen too. Without exadgerating the screen is literally as big as the radio in the 04's is now. Its the same one that is in the 300
