When Can We Get a Diesel?
First post....be gentle...
I rented a brand spankin' new Durango (no hemi) last weekend and I really liked it. Being a Mercedes diesel guy from way back, I was wondering if any of yous guys know when they will be putting one of those MB made CDIs in a Durango? Hopefully they won't put one of those sad Italian made diesels they put in the Liberty.
If I could get a diesel in a Durango, I'd run down and get one today.
What's the scoop...do they have plans to put a diesel in a Durango?
Thanks.

Not sure about whether or not they are going to put a diesel in the Durango. I know that they are really pushing the flex fuel so the next 2007 Durangos will have the Hemi with the MDS and the 4.7 which will run on gas or Flex fuel... no diesel though.
My guess would be that they didnt think the target buyers for the D would care for a diesel... in canada at least stations with Diesel pumps arent as easy to find as straight gasoline stations. Diesel engines are also a bit more high maintenance, especially in the winter.
The D is a family vehicle Moms and Dads from the Surburbs who rarely venture off road probably will be confounded by a diesel. North Americans also seem to have a false peception of deisel being a dirty burn as opposed to Europe where diesels are prevalent and run very clean.
I would love to see what a diesel could do in the D, it is a beat and the toque from a diesel engine would really help move its weight.... the Cummins works very well in the Ram but a diesel Durango may be a pipe dream.
