dodge lawsuits? durango 2004 all read asasp!!!
look 2004 durangos have a fire issue in the instrument cluster--dodge suposevily took care of these if sold after dec12 04--but the issue is the units sold before--as in my friends case---- dodge was to notify them and recall the truck to fix this issue--they didnt--well heres what took place-
a resistor in the instrument cluster heats up and can catch fire--well yup it did--burnt the truck to hell-- well now dodge sends them a release of liability to sign,,or they wont fix the truck until it is signed----ha,ha,,we know why!!!--but its still under warrantee--yes, but they wont untill it is signed---people here is a class action law suit incident----i ask if anyone knows more info or can tell me who else is in this boat with us,let me know----they didnt tell us about the issue i stated, about what caused fire, but we found it on the net-- here is a link to the recall issue--trust me they dont want the public to know this,,,and on the release it states when signed you cannot discuss this issue with no-one---why-----cause they ****ed up!!!!!!

This is for real folks. Mine is sitting at a dealership right now with the entire interior burned out. There have been several this year reported to the NHTSA for the exact same fire. Two on the internet for sale in my area with "slight interior fire damage". Pictures look just like mine...All '04s and all with at least 22K on the odometer. It's a very scary deal...about 30 seconds of black smoke, then flames from the instrument panel, 18 inches in front of your face if you're driving. By the way, Chrysler "Customer Service" has treated me like a POS throughout this whole ordeal. Nice way to treat a lifelong loyal Mopar customer. Mopars I have purchased new to date:
'89 Acclaim
'90 Dakota
'93 Shadow
'93 Dakota
'93 Lebaron convertible
'98 Dakota RT
'00 Dakota RT
'04 Durango
I won't have to worry about what my next DCX vehicle will be, that's for sure...I've been burned....literally.

How were you driving before this happened? Hard acceleration? Normal traffic?

Wasn't driving at all. Wife said it smelled funny inside when she went to run to the store. I got in and noticed it smelled like burning plastic, almost all of the idiot lights were on and and the speedo was reading 50mph sitting still. Turned the key forward to the accessory position, smoke started rolling out of the instrument panel...30 seconds later I had a full on Car-B-Q. All of this without ever actually starting the engine. My biggest beef is that the instrument panels that are going into the trucks built today probably have the same issue...who knows? They didn't fix it with the first recall and trucks made since the recall have instrument panels that are catching on fire. I think there's going to be a fairly comprehensive second recall. NHTSA has upgraded to a full engineering analysis. This is the last step before demanding a recall.
