RE: 2005 4.7 liter performance mods?
first off, big mistake getting awd. the added friction just kills everything. as for the 4.7 i have one in my 05 dakota.my biggest gains were a cam kit from krc performance. got an additional 33/35 horses. 750.00 for the kit 400.00 for the install. this is the best bang for these motors. you could get the k/n fipk, or a catback exhaust but nothing is really gonna help. just buy not being able to disconnect the frt drivetrain like a true 4 x 4 everything you do to make it faster is limited go to the dakota and look under gen 3 and see what other 4.7 owners are doing. not much out there yet for the 05 4.7. maybe some day hypertech or superchips will develope some power chips, and welcome to the forum

Hi Joel:
Congrats on the 05 Durango purchase.
There are a few mods that can be done such as maybe a new air intake/filter system or a Superchips programmer if you want to pay for premium gas.
The upgrade you really want is called a Hemi. Not to be flippant, but your Durango weighs in around 5000 pounds, and the 4.7 motor is rated at 235hp and 295 lbs torque vs the Hemis 335 hp and 370 lbs torque.
BTW, you will find very little difference in performance between PT 4x4 and FT 4x4 because the weight of the 4x4 parts is still present regardless of their status.
Some folks are not aware that since 2004, ALL of the 4x4 Durangos are AWD. There is no PT 4x4 option.
My 01 4.7 is a PT unit, but I am currently swapping the part time transfer case for a full time case because I want to enjoy the benefit of the 4x4 system I paid so much for whenever I am on th road.
Your rig is a very nice ride and will serve you well when doing what it was designed to do. A 4800 lbs SUV is not a sports car and was not meant to drive like one.
Good luck and enjoy the ride...... Don
