clutch fan 2004 Durango
i have the same problem and they said it was normal but i listened to some others durangos this pm and they had no noise at all. the saleman said he didnt like it either. so i am taking back into them. whaht have you been told? i have 300 miles on mine and the service guy said it happens when the car gets broke in. i think its bs.
it is a noisey bastard. i dont know why it is even there. it dosent work like it should. i live in the desert and it goes on at the half way point of the temp gage.it is a liquid filled temp sensetive. it comes on when you first start for some reason and when it is supposed to.all durangos will make the noise when the fluid in the fan gets warm enough to engage. at idle it should be drawing extra air as this is when it should be working but it dosent. if you go to the front you can feel the ac fan draws in more air than the clutch fan.so yes an electric fan would work better.as they can be on all the time. another bad thing is the clutch fan sucks power.lots of power.so you can add a electric fan and get rid of the clutch fan. if i start towing i will add an electric fan. there is more than enough room infront of the radiator to mount one.so yes it is normal and yes you can add an electric.
