Default 04 Durango low idle and stall

I have a 2004 Durango4.7 that has developed a stall condition at idle. It has 34,000 miles, and this has just started to happen a couple of weeks ago. It started out just stumbling a bit at red lights and intersections. Now it actually dies sometimes. The dealer had it for 2 days, and said it never did it on them. I know something is wrong it may go a day or so without happening, but them all of a sudden it will die again. At times it only idles at around 600RPM this seems low to me, but I'm not sure what is normal. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any advice except to keep very good documentation that this is a condition that is happening while under warrenty as your very close to going off the 3/36 bumper to bumper.

Have you had the transmission serviced lately? If so it is very possible that there is an internal leak, such as the gasket for the filter is not seated correctly or it is torn. This would be possible if the condition you are describing is for a cold vehicle and does not happen at normal operating temperature.

I would check the fuel filter. It sounds like you might have gotten a bad batch of gas or some crap in your fuel line. It sounds similar to what happened to an old truck of mine. It would stumble at low end, once I replaced the fuel filter, it ran great.

Just a thought.....

I have an 05 Durango with the 4.7L engine. Back in December the dealer updated the transmission control module, and now the vehicle will just stall at random times. Typically it happens when it's cold, but it has occurred 3 times in the past 2 days. The dealer has had it now for several days and it will not do it for them.

There were a couple of service bulletins issued for this exact problem, but it only occurred supposedly with a Hemi. I have seen other people on this forum with the same problem on the 4.7L engine. I just got off the phone with Dodge corp and got some additional help supposedly from the regional manager. The rep did acknowledge, sort of, that they were aware of a problem.

Anyone have more suggestions for this issue?

My 06 with 4.7 with only 4000 miles is already having idle issues. It gets really rough sitting at a light and it's just horrible, the entire truck shakes. Anyway, it'll be going to the dealer in the next month or two to see what they can do.

Try cleaning the throthle body. Use a rig with some carb cleaner on it. DO NOT spray inside the throthle. Clean the interior by moving the internal plate and take your time. You'll need to remove the main air hoses.

I did it and it reduce the problem. Can't say it's the solution but it makes a difference for sure.

Good luck!

I'm having the same problem with my 05 Ram with the same engine. it's been stalling out since ocotber (around 8000-9000 miles on it at the time). It did stop for 2 months, from Jan through Feb but now it's doing it again. I took it to the dealer since it finally threw a code (a transmission code)but they still said they could not find anything wrong and they told me that they have not heard of this problem (i do not believe that). I read somewhere else online that changing the Idle Speed Control Motor fixes it but the dealer would not do that, they said they could not just check that part and since the computer says it's fine and that there is no recall there is nothing they can do unless I just want to leave it with them and they'll drive it everyday until it happens to them and they'll try to figure it out again. One thing that has changed is where I got gas, For the pastcouple of monthsI've only been going to Mobil to get gas, but last week I got it at a Citgo and it started doing it again, could it really just not like Citgo gas? That sounds crazy to me but ya never know. If it can't get fixed the truck is gone, the last time it stalled on me it rolled me into an intersection and I was literally inches from getting hit by an oncoming truck.
