Default Anyone have factory NAV?

Thinking of upgrading to the factory in-dash navigation unit. Just wondering how well it works before dropping 2 grand.

It works great...but with the ever-changing roads, be prepared to spend $200+ (I think) for the updated DVD. Our D is less than a year old...and the GPS Nav DVD is already out of date. Recently, we got a flyer in the mail for a new GPS DVD, and I think it said it cost over $200. But, I don't know how much updates are for TomTom or Garmin GPS, so it might not be any different.

I know tomtom is giving away their latest map update for free if you get one of their newer portable gps units, but i don't know aobu for the in-dash. personally i think the portable gps units are a better deal because you can take them with you if you're walking or you can mount them in whatever car you want. I have tomtom's 910 in my car right now which is the best out there, plus it'd only cost you a third of what the in-dash will set you back.

Excellent advice from both of you. If you don't get a new DVD, the old one will still show the roads that have been there, right? I'm gonna look at that tomtom 910 unit right now, thanks for the info.

Anyone else with NAVs, keep the info coming!

Yeah, its a really cool unit, and also a lot people are having sales on their tomtom devices and you can even find the 910 for as low as $450 if you look around enough. I'm still learning about all the stuff I can do with it - the mp3 player is way cool (i listen to music all day long and hated only having a cd player in my car).
