2001 Intrepid SE Trouble Codes
I am a novice at auto repair but I figure I'm at least as smart as most guys that work at our local dealership. Plus, am short on cash so want to try some self-repar. Anyway, here is the problem: Coming home from town last Friday night and2001 Intrepid 2.7l(129000 miles) began to sputter. Engine light came on and began to flash. Fue gauge showed 1/8 of a tank. Pulled over and shut engine off. Opened hood (why I don't know!). Got back in car and it crunk but ran rough. Limped along on side of road. Had to keep pressing gas pedal further to keep speed up. Tach was jumping up occassionally. After a few miles, car shut off and would not restart. Turned over strong but would not fire up. Got someone to pull me home but first stopped at a gas station and put 3 gallons of gas in it. Still would not crank. Had to leave the next day on vacation so did not get a chance to do anything with it until today. In the meantime, my wife tells me the gauge had said 1/8 of a tank for 2 days before it quit. Got home today and tred to crank it again. First time, it fired but did not crank. Second time, it did crank. It ran really rough for 2-3 seconds then reved up to about 3000rpm for 2-3 seconds. Then it idled back down and ran fine. I drove it around for about an hour occassionally stopping to turn it off and restart it. It has done fine all afternoon.
After reading some posts on here, I checked the trouble codes and got:
P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction
P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)
P1494 Leak Detection Pump Switch or Mechanical Fault
After that I bought a subscription to an online repair manual. It is no help at all. Written in language that is way over my head!!!!!
Any help any one can offer me on this would be greatly appreciated!!!!

The P0700 code means the transmission at one time went into limp-in and kick the ck engine lite on, you'll need a scanner to ck the tcm for codes, P0455 is a large leak on the evap system. you may have a vacum hose off causing both codes.
